Mothers & Siblings of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم

Apart from Āminah رضي الله عنها who gave birth to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, there were a few women who had the honour of suckling the him, thus becoming his foster-mothers. Consequently, a few blessed individuals became foster siblings to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, who had no blood siblings.

Those who suckled him:

1. Thuwaybah, who was the slave of Abū Lahab.
2. Then Halīmah As-Sa‘diyyah, when the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was sent to the Banū Sa‘d in infancy, and where he spent his initial childhood. There is a difference of opinion with regards to whether both these women accepted Islām or not, and Allāh knows best.

Foster Siblings

Brothers:

1. Masrūh: He was the son of Thuwaybah, slave girl of Abū Lahab.
2. Abū Salamah Al-Makhzūmī رضي الله عنه: Suckled by Thuwaybah also.
3. Hamzah ibn ‘Abdil Muttalib رضي الله عنه: the uncle of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, also suckled by Thuwaybah (and Halīmah As-Sa‘diyyah later on)
4. ‘Abdullāh ibn Al-Hārith As-Sa‘dī: the son of Halīmah As-Sa‘diyyah
5. Abū Sufyān ibn Al-Hārith ibn ‘Abdil Muttalib رضي الله عنه: suckled also by Halīmah As-Sa‘diyyah.

Sisters:

1. Unaysah bint Al-Hārith As-Sa‘diyyah
2. Judāmah or Ash-Shaymā’ bint Al-Hārith As-Sa‘diyyah رضي الله عنها

Both were the daughters of Halīmah As-Sa‘diyyah, and sisters of ‘Abdullāh ibn Al-Hārith, foster brother of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم.[1]

فمنهن ثويبة مولاة أبي لهب، أرضعته أياما وأرضعت معه أبا سلمة عبد الله بن عبد الأسد المخزومي بلبن ابنها مسروح، وأرضعت معهما عمه حمزة بن عبد المطلب. واختلف في إسلامها، فالله أعلم.

ثم أرضعته حليمة السعدية بلبن ابنها عبد الله أخي أنيسة وجدامة وهي الشيماء أولاد الحارث بن عبد العزى بن رفاعة السعدي، واختلف في إسلام أبويه من الرضاعة، فالله أعلم، وأرضعت معه ابن عمه أبا سفيان بن الحارث بن عبد المطلب، وكان شديد العداوة لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، ثم أسلم عام الفتح وحسن إسلامه، وكان عمه حمزة مسترضعا في بني سعد بن بكر فأرضعت أمه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يوما وهو عند أمه حليمة، فكان حمزة رضيع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم من جهتين: من جهة ثويبة، ومن جهة السعدية.
